Ford Motor on Wednesday evening delivered higher than expected profits in the first quarter, driven by strength in its commercial business. Quarterly commentary Ford Blue , which represents Ford's gas-powered and hybrid vehicles, saw volumes and revenues down 11% and 13%, respectively. The lower volumes shouldn't be much of a surprise given Ford's pivot toward making more in-demand hybrids and ICE vehicles. Ford raised its adjusted free cash flow outlook for the year by $500 million to between $6.5 billion and $7.5 billion. Lowered capex with higher profits is what we want to see because greater capital efficiency should translate to a higher multiple.

Prices on the $54,995 entry-level Pro model and an $84,995 top-end Platinum model were unchanged. Allies of Donald J. Trump are discussing ways to elevate third-party candidates in battleground states to divert votes away from President Biden, along with other covert tactics to diminish Democratic votes. A doctor who called himself the “leg saver” is shutting down his vascular clinics in Michigan, where he performed thousands of lucrative procedures that have come under scrutiny for being unnecessary and potentially dangerous. Earlier this month, patients received a letter from the staff of Dr. Mustapha’s clinic, Advanced Cardiac & Vascular Centers, informing them that the business, which has clinics in Grand Rapids and Lansing, was closing and advising them to find new doctors. Dr. Mustapha and Dr. Saab didn’t respond to requests for comment. Dr. Mustapha is a prominent player in a booming industry that targets the roughly 12 million Americans with peripheral artery disease, in which plaque builds up in arteries, clogging the flow of blood. On Monday, at a hip Arab coffee shop in Dearborn, Mich., Nihad Awad, a co-founder and the national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, told me that as a Palestinian American Muslim who voted for Joe Biden in 2020, he feels “betrayed bitterly” over the administration’s position on the war in Gaza. So he was in the Detroit area this week to support the campaign to get voters to choose “uncommitted” in Michigan’s Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday. In Tuesday night’s results in Michigan, around one in eight Democrats voted “uncommitted” in the Democratic primary — a protest of the Biden administration’s policies toward Israel and the war in Gaza. In some predominantly Arab American precincts in Dearborn, around three in four Democrats cast a protest vote for uncommitted. Having one in eight Democrats vote uncommitted in an uncontested primary is not wholly unusual. As recently as the last time a Democratic president sought re-election, in 2012, 11 percent of Michigan Democratic caucusgoers voted for “uncommitted” instead of for Barack Obama. Like the senators from his birth state, Biden should ignore these threats from the left and stand up strongly for his vital center perspective. Looking at Michigan specifically, the threat of Arab Americans tanking Biden must also be put in wider perspective. Even with these larger trends in the state, the authors find: “In Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Hamtramck, and Livonia — the Michigan cities with the highest proportion of Arab American voters — Biden defeated Trump by a combined 38,000 or so votes. Democratic support for more moderate proposals backed by Biden is even higher: Three-quarters of Democrats support a plan to increase the number of immigration judges to speed up action on asylum claims.
